Flow meter for open channel
(irrigation channels, sewage networks)
A knowledge of the ultrasonic transit-time difference allows the measurement of the average speed of the fluid passing throught two probes (chords). These UF 322 CO flowmeters measure the velocity along several chords (two chords for the UF 322 CO-S and up to six chords for the UF 322 CO).

The average speed and a knowledge of the liquid level permits the accurate calculation of the flowrate and of the volume in the channel section. Speed measurements based on several chords permit a precise and bidirectional information even in case of dramatic changes of level (dry or storm conditions). The number of chords depends on the shape of the channel, on the upstream and downstream conditions, on the desired accuracy.
